Long-term stays in London: your options compared

For a stay of a month or several, London gives you four choices: a serviced apartment, an aparthotel, a furnished monthly rental or a flat of your own. Each suits a different stay. Here's how they compare.

A serviced apartment

A fully furnished apartment in a looked-after building, booked for the length you choose, by the week or by the month. You have your own front door, a living room, bedrooms and a full kitchen; the bills and Wi-Fi are included, housekeeping services are available, and a team is on hand day and night.

It suits stays from a few weeks to several months: families, professionals on a contract or a project, and anyone who wants a home in London rather than a room.

An aparthotel

A hotel room with a kitchenette, usually a studio, with a reception downstairs. It works well for one person for a week or two. For a family, or for a month or more, most people want separate bedrooms, a kitchen to cook in properly and a table to work at.

A furnished monthly rental

A private flat, let furnished by its owner for a month or more and found online. Every flat is different, and so is what's included: you arrange the keys, the cleaning and anything that needs fixing with each owner yourself.

Renting a flat

The way to live in London for a year or more, and the slowest to arrange: viewings in a busy market, referencing and right-to-rent checks, a deposit and the first month's rent up front, then furnishing the flat and setting up energy, broadband and council tax yourself.

It makes sense once you know where you want to live. Many people take a serviced apartment for their first month while they look.

Which suits your stay

  • A month between homes, or while you find one: a serviced apartment, ready the day you arrive.
  • A contract or a project of a few months: a serviced apartment, with a kitchen, a desk and the bills included.
  • A family relocating: a serviced apartment with a bedroom each, and time to choose a neighbourhood and schools.
  • A week or two on your own: an aparthotel or a serviced apartment.
  • A year or more in a part of London you already know: renting a flat.

Long-term stays in Nine Elms

Our London residences are at Embassy Boulevard in Nine Elms, beside a tree-lined park between Vauxhall and Battersea Power Station. Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station stations, both on the Northern line, are each a nine-minute walk; Vauxhall, for the Victoria line and trains, is 15 minutes on foot, and Battersea Park 17.

The residences have one to three bedrooms and sleep up to six, with a cinema, a gym, a library and a garden room downstairs. One booking can hold several residences side by side in the same building, for a larger family or a team.
